That's right, it doesn't just happen to Carrie Bradshaw. I woke up to find a breakup note taped to my TV early one morning.

I had been dating The Russian for a few months. We weren't really getting along, bickering a lot, and I had actually tried to end it the night before, but he said, “No we are just tired, I'll see you tomorrow for dinner everything will be fine.”

And it was fine.... until I woke up the next morning to find a note on my TV.

The funny thing is I woke up while he was shuffling around my apartment looking for pen and paper. When I asked him if he was okay he said he was just getting water...... Wouldn't that be the perfect time to be like, “Hey, you were right we are not getting along, I don't think this is working.”

And then I say something like, “Yeah, I agree but I think your a cool person, let's stay friends.”

But no. He thought a note was the best way. Fine.
I was a little annoyed, yes, but I found it mostly funny and I just went on with my day. I did not call or text him. I did not feel his actions warranted a response. Later that morning he sent me a text to make sure I received the note, and that he wanted to talk to me about it. I did not respond. That afternoon he called to make sure I received his text about the note. I did not respond. The next day I received another text asking if I was ever going to talk to him again. I did not respond. The day after that I had a birthday party to go to at a club in downtown Denver. He knew about the party and showed up.

He walked up to me and said, “Are you just going to keep ignoring me?”

I look at him utterly confused. “You dumped me on a Post-It.”

“No I didn't!”

Okay, witness exhibit A. I produce said note and proceed read some of my favorite lines from it such as : 'I wish I had been able to meet your mother' (who puts someone's mother in your breakup note, seriously), 'The guy that ends up with you will be the luckiest guy in the world,' etc...

“Well, that's not how I meant it!” He insists.

So ultimately I believe this was a power-play gone wrong. I'm assuming he left the note, walked out of my apartment, the door locked behind him and he had no way to take it back, and he had an OH $H!T moment.

Since then I have actually run in to the Russian a few times and I am happy to say we are on friendly terms, and have actually laughed together about the break-up-note scandal. In fact I think the first time we ran into each other I said, “Oh my God, I don't think I've seen you since you dumped me on a Post-it!”
